Melt My Icy Heart, Lord

I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! Rev. 3:15

Spiritually, seasons change. The heart grows cold and weary. Likened to ice upon a tree…with the bitter, coldness branching out in every direction…the heart deceives.

As a follower of Christ, I recognize when the cold winds blow and I feel the chill; however, I rarely anticipate a severe winter storm. Through each of these brutal storms, a danger arises that I may allow an ice-cover to remain upon my heart. During these very chilly seasons, the Lord reveals how to receive His warmth…to invite Him to set my heart ablaze with His mercy and grace.

Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Romans 12:11

Why must I make a simple solution to an icy film upon the heart so difficult?

Daily. Daily….throughout the day…He calls for all of His children to come…to sit and sup awhile. An invitation to dine with Jesus…to drink of the Living Water and to eat of the Bread of Life. Yet, a battle of the flesh surges. Something “urgent” beckons me.

What urges me more than the Spirit of the Living God? What satisfies more than the meat of the Word? What soothes more than the Balm of Gilead?

Nothing. Nothing melts the icy heart except the perfect blood of Jesus.

In the creating of new habits, the forming of new disciplines, the renewing of “what I should do,” might I take the time to pray and seek the help and accountability I need to run first and always into to His presence. Might reading the Scripture compare within me to drinking when thirsty and eating at the first hunger pang. Might I speak to Him more, praise Him more, listen to Him more.

Might the fire of my heart burn continually as He melts any icy covering in His glow. Finally, might He keep my heart ablaze with the Light of Jesus.

Friends, I pray He does this for each of us…and each of you receives the warmth of His embrace.

Moment by Moment in Jesus,
Brooke
