Feelings of worthlessness are not uncommon, especially among women. Our American culture is one of convenience, and most of us agree that we are grateful for those conveniences. However, with more ease and more access to things like extreme beauty enhancements for just about anyone, reality shows portraying love as a game to be played, and entertainment for children offered as a substitute for good parenting, women can feel that they just do not measure up to the “fabulous” lives that others live. And they do not feel like they look too FAB, either!
Furthermore, women feel the pressure to find love, and fall into the trap of “lookin’ for love in all the wrong places.” Married women buy into the stories on popular television programs that depict “WOMAN POWER,” and how to get their mate to do or be as they wish. Often, they just become disenchanted with marriage due to the friction in their homes. Mothers try to balance many things, especially working mothers and mommies of very young children. Due to exhaustion, mothers fall into the trap of depending on television, gaming systems, fast food, and microwavable meals to get through the day. Occasionally, these things are a welcome break. But when life becomes a downward spiral and mothers rely on harmful things as the norm, they begin to feel guilty and thoughts of failure arise. Women believe the lie that they are worthless.
Unfortunately, all women face the temptation of focusing on our failures, rather than the God who has overcome our shortcomings and failures. God’s Word says, “…Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore, with lovingkindness, I have drawn you” (Jer.31:3).
Did you remember that God is calling you with an everlasting love? He loves you with a love that is from everlasting to everlasting_in continuance. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, God draws those He loves (that is you!) to Himself. And when He calls us, we must not tell Him that we cannot come_that we are too busy or too preoccupied with discovering the next “Thing” that will make us feel worthy today. For the God who draws us, will help us, will teach us of His love, and lead us to repentance of those things that harm us and displease Him.
God wants you to take Him as your Father and He will deliver you from the groaning and captivity of wrong and harmful choices that go against His Word. He demonstrated His love toward you and me in Christ Jesus, His Son, “that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom.5:8). He now lives that you and I may receive His love, His free gift of salvation, and deliverance from a life of feeling worthless. He created you and you are of great value to Him!
Won’t you communicate with Him today and allow Him to substitute those feelings of worthlessness for the truths of His love?
